Slumdog

The street-corner bums here get pretty creative when it comes to writing on cardboard.  Maybe it's because a lot of them are able-bodied twenty-somethings that are still optimistic about their begging careers.  Here are a few samples:

"will wrestle your mother-in-law for a dollar"

"hungry hungry hobos"

"help out a starving supermodel"  He was hot.

One guy held up a sign in his right hand that said "rock" and a sign in his left hand that said "hard place"

I already told you about the guy who holds up an imaginary sign.  Alec suggested we give him an imaginary blank check made out to CASH.

One time Alec and I were walking out of our favorite doughnut shop with a box full of doughnuts when a guy behind us asked, "Can you spare a doughnut?" which is much better than, and more than a dollar.  Nice move, bum.   You picked a good spot.

On a more serious note, I got the idea to write this post due to something that was said in Relief Society today.  It was a quote by someone, I don't remember who, and it's only part of the quote.  It goes something like:

"The world takes the people out of the slums.  God takes the slums out of the people.  Then the people take themselves out of the slums."

So, what would you do?

It's not too often that I see panhandlers in Logan, so if I ever saw one pretending to hold a sign I would give him the biggest high five ever!
