The kindness of strangers

Yesterday I was waiting in line at the grocery checkout. When it came time to unload the groceries onto the conveyor belt, a woman who was walking by with her own grocery cart stopped and said, "You've got your baby to take care of and a brace on your wrist (I have a bit of tendonitis). Let me help you with that!" And she unloaded my whole cart (which was filled to capacity).

I was perfectly capable of unloading the cart myself and didn't really need her help, but I was quite taken aback by this sweet gesture from a perfect stranger.

It felt good to be the recipient of this simple and kind act, but more importantly, Joanie (I later found out the woman's name) reminded me of how easy it is to make other people feel good. I haven't done enough small and simple services for other people lately. I am too caught up in my own life and everything Randi.

So thank you Joanie, for helping me out in more ways than one, and also for reminding me that we are all in this together.

A very sweet post, Randi. I remember when I was in a cast, this kid followed me out to my car at the nursery and helped me load it up. I was so grateful and so touched.

For the record, I think you're very good when it comes to the kind gesture.
